From 8th to 9th Rabi Al-Awwal, corresponding to the 7th and 8th December 2016, the seventh meeting of the Arabic Union Catalog members took place in the realm of the King Abdulaziz Public Library in Riyadh. The meeting was held under the slogan "The Arabic Union Catalog in its New Phase: A Knowledge Service Platform for Arab Libraries." Distinguished officials and professionals attended the meeting.
A strategic vision and perspective for the Arabic Union catalog were presented at the meeting this year. In addition, it outlined the main directions it intends to take over the next ten years. Assimilation of Arab libraries into the developments in information organization in the digital environment is crucial in ensuring its sustainability and development within the cooperative principles of its members, considering the significant changes and updates libraries, as well as knowledge and information management, are undergoing globally.
As the Arabic Union Catalog transitions into its second phase, the meeting provided an excellent opportunity to discuss and present its revised membership policy. Furthermore, it offered its members a chance to learn about the significant developments the current AUC services will undergo. As well as the cloud library service, advanced services will be introduced to support other library activities. These activities include the electronic Arabic subject headings list and digitization from the Atlantic to the Gulf.
The seventh meeting of the Arabic Union Catalog had the following objectives:
- Making sure the Arabic Union catalog continues to exist as a non-profit cultural cooperative..
- Maintaining the Arabic Union Catalog project as a non-profit cultural cooperative.
- Directions, mechanisms, requirements, and features of the new phase.
- Informing members about the new membership policy and its importance to the continuation of the AUC.
- Introducing a range of newly launched services.
- The AUC has played a pioneering role in evolving technologies and standards in the information world.
- Collecting members' feedback on proposed future AUC development projects..
